Affected version:
vSM 2008, vSM 2008 SP1, vSM 2008 R2, vSM 2008 R2 SP1

Symptoms:
Following message appears:
EN: Index and length must refer to a location within the string Parameter name: length
GER: Index und Länge müssen sich auf eine Position in der Zeichenfolge beziehen. Parametername: length

if performimng one of following activities:

- Installing DRS Service using the button Install service (Dienst installieren)
- Installing vQA service using the menu Install/update service (Dienst installieren/aktualisieren)
- Updating ICS service using the button Update service (Dienst aktualisieren)
- Running the Transition Wizard on server or farm level

Cause:
The problem occurs, if .NET Framework 4.0 has bee installed on the target system and thus in the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP some keys exist, which do not reflect any version number.

Workaround:
1. On the target system backup the registry part HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP
2. Delete all registry parts except HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v2.0.50727
3. Now you can use the the features without problem
4. Restore the original registry, e.g using a package.

NOTE: On x64 Operating Systems the affected registry part is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP

Resoultion:
This issue will be fixed with the next version of visionapp Server Management.
