2010 R2 & Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit

I download 2010 R2 over the weekend and installed it. It is running on a Windows 7 Ultimate 32 Bit OS. When I connect to a system running Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit various Windows do not get repainted. For example I open Outlook 2007 and view an email I can see it fine, then I open another email and the email window frame is showing but the contents are blank, none of the "artifacts" appear in the window. If I right click on a Start menu item, e.g. Computer, the pop up menu is drawn but none of the options are displayed, it is blank.

2010 R2 seems to work fine for Windows 2008 R2 32 and 64 bit and Windows Remote Desktop works fine against the same machine.

What is going on?

RE: 2010 R2 & Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit

Seems to be only 1 of my 2 Windows Ultimate 64 Bit systems.

Also, the system in question worked fine in the first 2010 release.

Do you open Outlook in a remote session or do you use Outlook as an external application - nobody heard from this issue before.

What is different between this to machines that can have an effect? (Different graphic card or graphic card driver, different RDP Client version, etc?)

vRD 2010 R2 has change a little bit regarding the underlying Microsoft RDP client, because of the new RDP 6.0 features, maybe this explains why you have this issue only with 2010 R2, but I think it’s not general issue, sounds more like something is broken on one of you computers.
You can try to register mstscax.dll again with “regsvr32 mstscax.dll”
Please run the vRD “Componten-Check” and post the results.
Can you make a short test with MSTSC.exe, do you have the same issue with it?
Can you post a screenshot of the issue where we can see the artifacts?

RE: 2010 R2 & Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit

Seem to have lost my last post.

I am still experiencing this problem would really like to resolve it. In order to get the functionality that I had back I reinstall VRD 2010 (not R2) and I am getting the following error:
--------------------------------------------------
An unhandled exception occured. Please check you settings.

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

See the error log of the application or the application event log of the client for additional information.
--------------------------------------------------
VRD 2009 and VRD 2010 R2 don't give me this error. I have installed/reinstalled and still get the error.

Is there somewhere I can get a new download of VRD 2010 to see if it is a corrupted installer?

RE: 2010 R2 & Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit

I have not been able to get back to this for some time now but I do need/want to resolve the problem.

With respect to my VRD 2010 R2 problem here are the answers to your questions:

The 2 machines are very different one is a Dell Insprion 1720 and the other is a Lenovo T61. They are both Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and are fully patched/updated.

Just tried the "REGSVR32 MSTSCAX.DLL" suggestion and it seems to be working. Will advise further.

Better but still getting screen paint/response issues.

MSTSC works fine, no issues with screen paint or responsiveness.

Can't get a "screen print". It seems that if i click on any other area of the screen the screen repaints. In addition this is my work laptop and a little reluctant to post images of business emails in a "public" forum.

There is no event in the Application log for when this error occurs.

RE: 2010 R2 & Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit

One other note. Since the original post I have updated from Outlook 2007 to 2010, still experiencing issues.

Also, I am not convinced this issue is specifically related to Outlook it is just more obvious in Outlook than other applications.

We can't reproduce and do not know what causes this error - you are the only guy who is having this problem... what should we do?

RE: 2010 R2 & Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit

Well I did not have the problem in VRD 2010, I would like to go back to VRD 2010 but as I have noted it will not work due to an error. 2009 and 2010 R2 work fine.

The error is:
--------------------------------------------------
An unhandled exception occured. Please check you settings.

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

See the error log of the application or the application event log of the client for additional information.
--------------------------------------------------
VRD 2009 and VRD 2010 R2 don't give me this error. I have installed/reinstalled and still get the error. There is NO event log entry when this error occurs. Why do 2 other versions work and not 2010?

Is there somewhere I can get a new download of VRD 2010 to see if it is a corrupted installer?
